ššTracking Earnings from Leading Tech/AI Companies
Most of you likely donāt have time to watch and read the earnings report of any public company, let alone listen in on the earnings call where typically the CEO will have some words to share - some more than others (see Elon). But it is helpful to track these companies so we can learn where they are investing in AI, what their customers (us) are buying and using AI for, and what might be coming soon in terms of new and fascinating developments.
This week we had a slew of earnings, and below I share the top 4 companies.
Tesla:
Tesla's earnings call emphasized the company's continued progress in AI, particularly in the development of its Full Self-Driving technology. This advanced AI system is designed to enable Tesla vehicles to drive autonomously, marking a significant step towards the future of autonomous transportation.
Tesla is an AI company, not a car company, as Elon Musk restated on this weekās earnings call. He also floated the idea of using the idle compute power in each Tesla to power inference work (basically drive AI models - pun intended). Think of this as a mass-distributed data center using every Tesla as an interconnected AI model.
Microsoft:
Microsoft's earnings call revealed the company's significant investments in AI infrastructure, aimed at meeting the growing demand for AI applications. The company reported strong growth in its cloud services, driven by AI applications such as the Copilot AI assistant. Microsoft's commitment to AI was further underlined by its announcement of a $70 billion stock buyback, demonstrating confidence in its AI-driven future. Read more HERE.
Google/Alphabet:
After Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) reported first-quarter results Thursday that blew past analysts' estimates, executives spoke in its earnings call about how the company expects to expand artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across its products, as well as its decision to pay out a dividend to shareholders for the first time. Read more HERE.
Meta:
Meta Platforms' earnings call focused on its AI-driven initiatives, including the use of AI to enhance user experience on its platforms. The company highlighted its efforts to develop AI models that can better understand and respond to user needs, demonstrating a commitment to leveraging AI for improved social media experiences.
The stock dropped because many shareholders are tired of Zuckerbergās āchasing strategyā - he abandoned Facebook to chase the Metaverse and spent billions doing that. Now he is abandoning the metaverse and chasing AI. Read more HERE.
