Lead Memo

šŸ„³šŸ¾Ā Happy Halving Day!

The Bitcoin Halving is a preprogrammed event that occurs roughly every four years and impacts the production of Bitcoin. The halving reduces the reward for mining Bitcoin transactions by half, which reduces the rate at which new coins are created and thus lowers the available amount of new supply. Its impact on Bitcoin pricing? Historically within a year after a halving, the price increases significantly. This is not financial advice!

Why include Bitcoin in an AI newsletter?

There are at least two reasons I want you to consider and be aware of.

  1. Transition of Infrastructure from Bitcoin Mining to AI Computing: Bitcoin's halving event, reduces the reward that miners receive for validating transactions. This makes Bitcoin mining less profitable over time, especially against the backdrop of rising costs for energy and hardware. As a result, operators of Bitcoin mining centers are increasingly looking to repurpose their facilities. Given that these centers have the necessary infrastructure like power supplies and cooling systems, which are also essential for running high-powered AI computations, there's a clear economic incentive to shift focus.

Facilities originally designed for Bitcoin mining are ideal for retrofitting to support the demands of generative AI technologies. This not only includes infrastructure but also includes the potential reuse of energy sources and physical space, creating a seamless transition from cryptocurrency to AI services.

  2. Bitcoin as a Digital Native Currency for AI Agents: As both Bitcoin and AI exist primarily in the digital domain, Bitcoin could naturally serve as the default monetary system for AI agents. This alignment is due to Bitcoin's unique attributes: it is programmable, operates independently of traditional financial institutions, is secure, and provides transparent transactions. These features make it a potentially ideal medium of exchange for AI agents that require a method of storing and exchanging value autonomously.

AI agents, particularly those involved in autonomous transactions or operations across digital platforms, could leverage Bitcoin to conduct their activities efficiently and securely. This could revolutionize how AI systems interact economically, making them more independent and capable of handling complex transactions on their own.
