Fake Law Firms Making AI-related Demands
This is not a real law firm.
t
But it certainly acted like one when it sent a news reporter a demand that they remove an image they claimed was based on copyright-protected material. Now you might think they demanded money - nope - just backlinking - which is a way to drive internet traffic.
This is weird. Someone went through the pain of setting up a law firm website to do this. How do I know it is fake? Well in part based on this article. But I also did a quick review of the street address it has listed. Oh, there is a law firm at that same address and suite number, but not this one. Also, I used LinkedIn to try to find any of these lawyers. Not one showed up.
Why share this? Phishing scams are getting more varied. Given that most people who are using generative AI image generators likely know there are ongoing copyright issues, it is easy to see how a strongly worded demand from a law firm might prompt them to action.
Spotlight
OpenAI held its first developer conference and is releasing massive upgrades.
Watch a 3min overview:
4 Key takeaways:
The GPT Store. Expect many more options, tools, apps, and specific use case models to come online soon. Since OpenAI developers can now monetize their GPT models - things will explode. [see image below of current store]
Copyright Infringement. This is for API users and Enterprise customers only. Not the individual users of the free or Plus subscription.
Agents/Assistants. These will be multifunctional tools that will allow you to accomplish a series of tasks rather than just one.
Knowledge Cut-Off Date. For the current GPT Plus users the OpenAI is now current to April 2023. ChatGPT (free) still has a knowledge cutoff of September 2012.
