Google Tomorrow!
Hello AI enthusiasts! The moment we've been waiting for is here: Google's annual developer conference is back.
This year, Google is set to reveal a range of groundbreaking artificial intelligence advancements (let us hope 😛). One of the stars of the show will be PaLM 2, Google's newest and most advanced large language model. This sophisticated model supports over 100 languages and has demonstrated skills in coding, math, and even creative writing.
But that's not all. Google is also planning to introduce enhanced “generative experiences” for Bard and Search. Bard, Google's AI model, is set to come back stronger, hopefully with improvements that will make it more effective and reliable (simply making it usable would be an upgrade 🤦)
The AI innovation doesn't stop there apparently. Google is also bringing its AI capabilities to Workspace with new features such as template generation in Sheets and image creation in Slides and Meet products.
With Google's exciting new developments, it's sure to be an informative and impactful event.
You can watch it here at 1pmET tomorrow:

Sexy Antitrust?: Yup, It’s Here
Back when I was at Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) during the crazy times of dialup internet, but at the birth of DSL . . . wait, did I lose you yet?
I definitely aged myself with this one. 🧓🏻
For those of you unfamiliar with DSL, it was the precursor to high-speed internet (actually ISDN was but now I am just being a geek). This is when copper lines (phone lines) and central offices (where all phones lines connect from phone company to your home) were deregulated.
I was on the side of the big guy, Bell Atlantic. I was with the legal team and deep into regulatory and marketplace battles. We basically had a monopoly. But even then, we could see that letting more competitors into the game was a good thing. When the state and federal agencies stepped in, things really started moving. High-speed internet took off big time because of all this competition.
But here's the kicker - everyone was using our stuff, the equipment Bell Atlantic had put in place and spent $$$ over decades installing it all. Doesn't sound fair, does it? But that's the weird and wild world of antitrust for you. It's all about stopping one company from hogging the whole market, but it can sure feel strange when you're the one sharing your toys.
Fast forward to now, and it's clear we're gonna see this kind of thing happening all over again in the world of AI. So get ready, it's going to be a wild ride!
Things are about to get really interesting.🐅🦁🐆
Imagine the tech world as an immense, thriving jungle, where the big cats - Google, Amazon, Microsoft - are prowling, harnessing the power of AI as if it were a super serum, scaling the trees of innovation faster than the smaller critters can keep up. Sounds exciting, right? But there's a potential downside - a jungle where only the big cats roam isn't much fun for the rest of the ecosystem.
Now, these big cats, with their AI-induced superpowers, are capable of creating bespoke solutions, predicting future trends, and delivering user experiences that make the rest of us go "Wow!" But, as they flex their muscles and outpace the competition, they risk becoming the sole rulers of their respective territories - monopolies, in other words.
And with such dominance, they could put up gates, make secret stashes (or, in the tech world, 'blackboxes'), and set prices as they wish. They could control the parts of the ecosystem that we, the AI enthusiasts and consumers, crave to access affordably and directly.
To prevent this jungle from becoming a monopoly-driven dystopia, we need to act swiftly and develop AI policies. In this context, antitrust laws and enforcement are like the jungle rangers that maintain balance and prevent the big cats from overstepping their bounds.
Antitrust laws, for those unfamiliar, are the watchdogs of capitalism. They keep an eye on the big players, ensuring they don't get too greedy and stifle competition. They guard against practices like price-fixing and collusion and can even break up companies that have grown too big for their boots, thus ensuring that the jungle remains diverse and competitive.
But what about free-market capitalism?
Feeling a tad conflicted about the role of antitrust laws in capitalism is only natural. After all, isn't capitalism about survival of the fittest? And isn't the power to innovate and scale a reward for the fittest?
Indeed, these are the battle lines that are being drawn for the future of AI. Companies, legislatures, and enforcement agencies are about to engage in a tug-of-war.
On one side, the champions of unchecked capitalism argue that short-term monopolies might be necessary for the widespread adoption of revolutionary technologies. They believe that the big cats, with their vast resources, are best equipped for initial development and deployment.
On the other side, the proponents of antitrust laws argue that unchecked monopolistic practices can suffocate innovation and upset market balance. They remind us of how government intervention, like when ATT was forced to unbundle itself and create mini-regional phone companies, has historically spurred innovation and growth.
As we move forward, informed policy decisions will be crucial to ensure that the revolution brought about by AI benefits all and does not lead to monopolistic control that stifles competition or hinders innovation. The challenge for policymakers is to learn from history and create a robust regulatory environment that fosters innovation while maintaining fair and open competition.
We are about to witness an epic showdown that will define the future of AI.
And, in this thrilling saga, remember - having a thorough understanding of antitrust is not just good to have, it's a must-have. After all, we are all part of this jungle, and its future is our future too.
Oh and why sexy Antitrust? Well, good question. But I got you to read it 🥰.
Here come the enforcers
President Biden's top antitrust enforcers have raised concerns about potential threats to competition posed by artificial intelligence (AI) tools in tech companies.
Officials, including the Justice Department antitrust chief and Federal Trade Commission Chair, have warned of the impact of AI on competition in Silicon Valley, with AI potentially tipping markets that depend on scale. The comments echo a recent report by the AI Now research institute calling for swift regulatory action on AI, which warned that a small group of tech companies could corner the AI market.
Enforcers and regulators must be vigilant as AI tools are trained on large datasets in largely unchecked ways, risking the automation of discrimination and unfair locking out of people from jobs, housing, or services. Existing laws prohibiting discrimination will apply, as will authorities proscribing exploitative collection or use of personal data.
Officials have stressed the importance of bringing in staff with the technical expertise needed to address threats posed by the tools.
Other takeaways:
The history of the growth of technology companies two decades ago serves as a cautionary tale for how we should think about the expansion of generative A.I.
America’s longstanding national commitment to fostering fair and open competition has been an essential part of what has made this nation an economic powerhouse and a laboratory of innovation.
Government action required AT&T to open up its patent vault and similarly unleashed decades of innovation and spurred the expansion of countless young firms.

USE CASE Templates
As a service provider, your primary goal is to win, serve, and retain clients. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by using templates - either for yourself or helping your client create some.
A template is a pre-designed document or file that contains a structure or format for a specific purpose. It is a ready-made starting point that you can use to create new documents with a consistent design and layout. Templates can include text, images, and other design elements that you can customize to suit your needs.
Templates can be used in various aspects of work, such as proposals, reports, presentations, and even client or employee onboarding. They save time, reduce errors, and ensure consistency in your work.
Here are some ideas on how you can use templates to help yourself and your clients:
Proposals: A well-designed proposal template can help you win more clients by presenting your services and solutions in a visually appealing and persuasive way.
Reports: A report template can help you deliver clear and concise information to your clients, whether it's a progress report, status update, or project summary.
Presentations: A presentation template can help you communicate your ideas and recommendations effectively to your clients, whether it's a sales pitch, training session, or project update.
Client onboarding: A client onboarding template can help you ensure a smooth and efficient onboarding experience for your clients.
Planning and organizing: A planning and organizing template can help your clients plan and organize their tasks and activities efficiently.
Decision making: A decision-making template can help your clients make informed decisions about their business operations.
Process and workflow visualization: A process and workflow visualization template can help your clients visualize their processes and workflows, track relevant data and information, and prioritize tasks and actions.
Here are some prompts you can use to generate templates.
‼️💥 These prompts are fairly generic so they will give fairly generic repossess. As always, the more detail you can provide, the better the response. See my examples and re-prompts.
