Brainyacts #3
The Brainyacts Generative AI newsletter for legal pros everywhere.
đ Welcome to the 46 new subscribers.đ Thank you for joining and please spread the word.
This is the Brainyacts newsletter, where we explore the wondrous world of generative ai and its potential to revolutionize the way we work and think.
This is day 97 of 100 (our goal - 100 consecutive days!) and today we will:
explore a new generative ai tool
give you 1 use case for practicing lawyers
give you 1 use case for the business of law/legal operations
share at least one cool and effective ChatGPT prompt to try out
highlight news you can use đ€
save you from news you can lose đ
Authorâs note: Yes, you should treat AI as a trusted colleagueđ.
You can begin to develop a relationship with the technology and integrate it seamlessly into your workflow. Remember, AI is not a replacement for human judgment and expertise, but rather a tool that can augment and enhance your work. So, think of AI as a virtual teammate and use it to your advantage!
Examples:
Ask it to proofread anything.
Pro tip: donât just say âproofreadâ - tell it to âproofread, including spelling, grammar, structure, and tone - provide suggested corrections.â
Ask it to be your copywriter. A copywriter writes for impact and engagement (think advertisements and pitches) but can add value to anything written, like an email.
Pro tip: tell it to âPlease rewrite the following email as though you are the great advertising genius David Ogilvy.â
Ask it to be your mentor. It works! It will give you good reminders and tips.
Pro tip: write this âBe my performance coach. I am feeling a bit stressed and worn down but I have to be productive today and end the day with a meeting I am not really looking forward to. How can I be my best today?â
Hit me up if you want to contribute in some way. This is my email address [email protected]. Please use it. Let me know how you like the newsletter and if you have suggestions for how to make it even better. Or hit the short-click survey at the end!
Let's kick this off, shall we?
Disclaimer: I love this tool! đ
Todayâs tool is Opinionate.io.
Its tagline is âLet AI debate your own topic or press generate a topicâ
What it does? Generates two sides of an argument so that you can learn more about potential positions to take on an issue - large or small.
Who is it for? Literally, anyone who wants to gain insight into different takes on an issue, decision, or topic.
Here is my <5min video of me walking you through it.
Practice of law use case:
Help prepare for presenting an idea or potentially challenging topic to your client. Yes, you likely know what they should do but can you present it in a manner that hits on most of their potential hesitations, concerns, or differing opinions? Use this to validate how well-rounded your advice and point-of-view are by âhearingâ it from another perspective.
Business of law/legal operations use case:
Ok, business of law peeps - this tool is one I highly recommend putting into heavy rotation. It can be challenging to feel confident about presenting something to a lawyer or a leader. This will help!
Many of you in business of law/legal operations roles donât have the advantage of a well-rounded perspective on potential constraints or opposing forces there may be to your efforts - this is a tool that will help you flesh them out so you are aware and more prepared.
News you can use:
The Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI) (an innovation-focused think tank at The College of Law (Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific)) has launched the Generative AI in Legal Practice Initiative to create a platform for discussions, discourse, and debate on the application of generative AI in legal practice.
The initiative will kick off with 14 roundtables involving over 300 legal professionals, educators, law students, access to justice professionals, and regulators. CLI plans to share insights and findings from the initiative as it progresses.
Later in the year, CLI, in collaboration with the College of Law, will take the discussion global with a virtual two-day event called the Generative AI in Legal Practice Summit. Participants can register for updates and information, suggest topics, contribute to the summit, or recommend someone else by completing the relevant sections of the form. More info is here.
News you can lose:
For those worried about getting laid off, letâs look to Elon Musk and the tool I profiled in yesterdayâs newsletter, Zuva.
Above the Law is out this morning with an interesting piece suggesting a tool like Zuva can be used to review employment contracts.
Why is this news you can lose? Well, you could lose a lot if you have language in your employment agreement that you might not be aware of. Use the free version of Zuva to check it out. Or just read your agreement. đ€Šââïž
